FireRed and LeafGreen now link with HOME: check before you transfer
Nintendo Switch players can connect FireRed and LeafGreen to Pokémon HOME. Understand the one-way move and the separate Pokédex registration feature before acting.

What the update changes
Pokémon announced on October 7 that the Nintendo Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen now connect with Pokémon HOME. A Pokémon moved into HOME cannot return to either game, and Pokémon from other games cannot visit these versions. The announcement also links completion of their HOME Pokédex to a Celebi gift in the mobile app.
Registration and transfer are different actions
The official article says registered Pokédex entries can be reflected in HOME once connected, without transferring each Pokémon. That distinction is the most useful detail to understand before you start. A record of a discovery and the movement of a particular partner are not the same choice.
Our recommendation is to read the current on-screen explanation with your goal in mind. If you only want to check collection registration, do that first. If you want a Pokémon to leave its original team, pause and consider the effect on the save you are still playing. The one-way restriction makes a quick, excited button press a poor substitute for a decision.
Our pre-transfer checklist
Start with a short note about the Pokémon you are considering: its role in the team, why you want to move it and which game you hope to use it in next. Keep this as a personal reminder, not as a guarantee of compatibility. Read the destination’s own current instructions before relying on a plan.
Check the game version named in the announcement, the connected account and the action shown on screen. Then compare the selected Pokémon with your note before confirming. If a detail is unfamiliar, stop at that screen and read the official help rather than experimenting with a partner you wanted to keep in its original adventure.
Keep the Kanto adventure meaningful
There is no need to turn a nostalgic save into a transfer checklist. You might prefer to keep a team together and use our Kanto-era Pokédex browsing as a companion to that playthrough. Our pages can help you revisit species and evolution families; they do not connect to HOME or move Pokémon on your behalf. The source below remains the authority for the update and gift conditions.
