A team battle built around scoring

Pokémon UNITE brings five-on-five team battles to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Developed by TiMi Studio Group and The Pokémon Company, it launched on Switch on July 21, 2021, with the mobile release following on September 22, 2021. Its Aeos Island setting supports a real-time contest whose main outcome is the team's score, rather than completing a regional Pokédex.

Players gather Aeos energy by defeating wild or opposing Pokémon and deposit it in opponents' goal zones. The team with the most points wins the battle. That makes a useful decision broader than selecting the strongest attack: where to move, whether to score, and when to defend can affect what the team achieves from a successful encounter.

Your Pokémon develops during the match

Each player chooses one Pokémon before a battle. During play, that Pokémon grows stronger, may temporarily evolve, and learns moves. The official guide also distinguishes held items from Trainer-used battle items. A species such as Pikachu, Lucario, or Gengar therefore comes with a game-specific role and set of decisions, rather than simply reproducing its core-series moves and stats.

For a first learning goal, choose one Pokémon and observe what its moves help you do. Practice approaching a fight, leaving it, and turning an advantage into a scoring opportunity. Changing Pokémon after every defeat can make it harder to identify what you are actually improving. This is a learning approach, not a current balance ranking or a claim that one character is always the best choice.

Coordinate around the objective

Because the victory condition is a team score, an individual knockout and a useful team play are not always the same thing. Chasing an opponent can move you away from a goal that needs defending; carrying energy is not identical to depositing it. Reading the map and noticing teammates makes the scoring rules easier to translate into practical choices.

A replay goal can be as specific as arriving with teammates for an objective or recognizing when a fight no longer helps the score. Those goals are easier to assess than simply deciding to win more often. They also remain useful when balance updates change particular Pokémon, because they concern the relationship between movement, timing, and the team's shared objective.

Platforms and progress are separate checks

The official site confirms cross-platform battles between Switch and mobile versions. The mobile launch update also describes linked-account progress across those versions. Before switching devices, check the account already associated with your play data rather than beginning a new profile and assuming it will merge automatically. Optional purchases are offered, so account identity matters for more than a temporary match result.

As of September 30, 2026, Facebook accounts can no longer be linked or used to log in. The official notice directs affected players to other supported linked methods. This is a specific account-support change, not a claim that all UNITE accounts or platforms have stopped working. Consult that notice if an old sign-in method is the source of a problem.

Availability depends on region

UNITE service ended in Belgium and the Netherlands on November 30, 2025, with downloads discontinued there. That regional notice should not be mistaken for a worldwide shutdown. It does mean that a generic available-now banner cannot answer availability for every reader. Check your regional store and the official support information before planning a new installation.

This guide was checked on October 4, 2026. It avoids a supposedly permanent roster count, tier list, or event schedule because those details can change. Our Pokédex introduces the species featured in the arena; UNITE's own pages explain their current game-specific moves. For a different style of team strategy, Masters EX offers a useful comparison built around Trainer-and-Pokémon pairs.
